In the north west of the Netherlands an old abandoned asylum from the 1930's was being renovated and turned into a care centre for senior citizens. The owner allowed me to photograph these new, pristine and untouched spaces before the new inhabitants arrived. Everything was white, no smutch, no finger-or footprint to be seen. Virginal white. It reminded me of the tale of the Vestal Virgins. Hence the title of this series.

This series of pictures of shopfronts came to be during my stay in Australia's beautiful Sydney. While walking down one of the shopping streets in the inner city suburbs I noticed from across the street that the width and the height of every shopfront was very similar. Within this square every shop owner had managed to create his/her own world. To put their stamp on their little square universe.
