Christoph Eberle - Hyperreal Oilpaintings

Christoph Eberle - Hyperreal Oilpaintings
Christoph Eberle was born in 1969 in Zürich, Switzerland. He graduated in 1996 as an architect. As a self-taught hyperrealistic painter his influences include old masters such as Caravaggio, Vermeer van Delft, Jacques Louis David, Caspar David Friedrich and Segantini. Most of his inspirations are born from snapshots of everyday life – be it in the laundry room or on the way in to town: These moments, when for an instant the light and the situation are coherent, producing a brief moment of clarity and perfection – a type of film still from his personal movie – are what he searches to capture as precisely as possible. Painting with very fine and concise brushstrokes he is exploring the classic image concepts (landscape, still life and portrait). Although photos are used as a starting point in the painting process, the intention is not to fool the eye but to create images that are coherent and self-contained, allowing space for interpretation. So the goal is to achieve a strong and independent visual idea, not a slavish copy.

Graham Dean

Graham Dean
‘The body is a powerful tool to characterize the identity of a character – from the inside to the outside. The English artist, Graham Dean transmits an essential part of the emotions and psychological states of his characters whether they be beautiful models, athletes, crazy bondage enthusiasts, identical twins, people with skin imperfections, – all using their bodies as vehicles of expression. He is essentially a painter of identity. But more than the identity of the body, it is the identity of the soul as evoked by these sumptuous watercolours. Like Egon Schiele who was researching in mental hospitals to study his subjects, Graham Dean loves these oddball characters who voluntary use their bodies often in extreme situations. His images are recomposed in a creative alchemy, mixing people, body parts and time itself. Although the works are representational, they escape the illustrational to reach a universal form from something deeply personal. He has also used buildings, mysterious ships, confessionals in churches, forests, trains, to enhance these atmospheric moods. For Graham Dean, the body is a ‘holding-pen of emotions’, a ‘thinking body’ similar to the research done by Wilhelm Reich. His characters are the receptacles of these emotions, ideas, and memories. They are witnesses of the human condition and our complex relationship with the world. Our individuality, our identity is formed by this interaction of our inner lives which is constantly penetrated and altered by the outside world. Graham’s painting is an investigation between the inside and the outside, the surface and what lies beneath. Arms, faces, torsos, legs become interchangeable – anonymous but recognisable, The body becomes a canvas, torn and stretched, a vehicle for the imagination of the artist. The works are open to interpretation, free, as are the movements of watercolour, colours and sensual shapes.
Using a technique he calls ‘’reverse archaeology’’, Graham Dean re-invents the traditional uses of watercolour resulting in a unique technique. Contrasting layers of paint are applied separately on thick, handmade paper from Southern India. Each sheet has undergone a process of tearing and overlapping to create a final composition, this corresponds to the multiple layers of the epidermis which protects the human body. The process is organic and cyclical, the paintings appear fragmented and destroyed using sections(front and back) that lead to a renaissance in the form of a new composition. The choice of colours and contrasts is important to Graham Dean : like the English landscape painter John Constable, the use of red accentuates the dramatic effect of green and yellow. These powerful and bright colours like those found in silk saris, fascinated him when he had a residency in Trivandrum, Kerala in Southern India. The application of paint glazes (multiple, transparent layers) create intensity and depth, as in Rothko. The juxtaposition of complimentary colours creates strong, theatrical works. The artist illuminates his figures in the manner of a filmmaker, pointing to body parts, which are also found in the videos of the artist. Intoxicated by the colour and the pleasure he takes in his touch, Graham Dean likes the thickness of the paper and the sensual, exotic properties of transparency and opacity. Just as Peter Doig builds the work of materials (sets of textures, colours – pure and mixed), he creates painted atmospheres. Moving forms which escape our gaze, disintegrate before our eyes . We admire his mastery of pigments suspended in water.’ Adapted from an article by Galerie Maubert, Paris. September 2011

Watercolor art by Ramesh Jhawar

Watercolor art by Ramesh Jhawar
Ramesh’s paintings are mostly depictions of everyday life combined with the element of strong light and shadows. He plays with light and shades depicting everyday life look dreamy and surreal. Being a self-taught artist has helped him evolve an individual style rather than fetter him into one school of painting. There is never a dearth of subjects for him as he is constantly inspired by one thing or the other. His experiences have enriched him, not only as a person but also as an artist. He wants his art to speak for itself rather than give an explanation for it, obviously, that is the best way to judge art.

Anne-Christine Roda

Anne-Christine Roda
I define a highly original interpretation of the portrait: in my work the painting is entirely subjugated to the portrayal of man’s fragility. My paintings, in terms of the choice of pose for my models and the neutral treatment of their backgrounds are as rooted in tradition, as my subjects are sourced unequivocally from our contemporary era. My choice of subject speaks directly to our everyday lives. My ‘sitters’ – very diverse in age and social status are striking in their individuality. Yet going beyond the individual, their very diversity represents disparate fragments of a mosaic combining to reveal an image of humanity pulsating with life. Through this shared humanity each portrait has the power to evoke in an instant for the viewer, the most personal of memories. Thanks to my training as a picture restorer, I, with each meticulously applied layer of paint gradually reveals my sitters face in all its naked intimacy. The features emerge with precision and realism. The gentle hollow of a fine wrinkle, the texture of a strand of hair or even the moisture of a glistening eye: it’s in this quest for exactitude and fidelity to my subject that the individual is revealed in all its sensitivity. It was the dawn of photography amongst other things that heralded the decline of the painted portrait and yet it is from a photograph that I work, ultimate proof that while digging deep into the traditions of my art form I distance myself from this very tradition in seeking a naked rawness in my representations. Since 2013, I have exhibited in Galleries (France, Geneva, Munich), Art Centres (in France), Art Fairs (Paris, Strasbourg, Monaco) and Museums (National Portrait Gallery in London and Edinburgh, Ulster Museum in Belfast, Meam in Barcelona, Wausau Museum in Wmoca). In 2015, I participated to the BP Portrait Award. My paintings are part of collections in France, Switzerland, Germany, UK, United States, Hong Kong...

Arianne Clément - The Art of Aging - A photo story on the themes of beauty and sensuality after 70

Arianne Clément - The Art of Aging - A photo story on the themes of beauty and sensuality after 70
This project owes its existence to a revelation I experienced when I encountered Marie-Berthe, a young 102-year-old beauty whose ease and casualness in front of the lens was as impressive as it was inspiring. I was immediately taken with the old woman and the way she totally - almost unconsciously - felt beautiful and attractive and was not afraid to show it off. What if beauty could not be reduced to an idealized aesthetic? What if, beyond the traces left by the passage of time on our features, beauty could be something less tangible but more lasting? This vision is far removed from learned ideas and clichés commonly associated with beauty. It doesn’t have to be something that we are born with or without and neither does it have to be the privilege of youth. Beauty has to be much more and, hopefully much better, than this. It is a way of being. Something to cultivate, teach and learn from, and something that each of the nine women, and four men, that reveal themselves in this project are marvelous examples of. As models, they have been a great inspiration to me and it is my hope that my portraits will transmit their spirit and maybe also a precious lesson on the venerable art of aging. The elders whose intimacy is revealed and celebrated here share with me a notion of beauty and sensuality that inspires a state of grace. Lightness and depth are here side by side in a provocative but thoroughly pleasurable display. Like dozens of other potential subjects, the models featured here answered my invitation issued on social media over the last few years. They were willing to contribute in their own way to redefine the way we view beauty, sensuality and old age.
Borrowing from the conventions of Nude and Boudoir photography, the pictures show my fascination with the human body and its great potential for emotional expression. It is therefore of great importance to me to establish a strong bond with my models, with the goal of laying them bare both physically and psychologically. The subjects, captured in their uniqueness, diversity and vulnerability, are sublimated by the use of black-and-white which enhances their presence and adds a poetic dimension to each portrait. These pictures also aim to illustrate my irritation with the very conformist way we view beauty and with the pervasive presence of certain imagery that subdue many people into body shaming and a fear of getting old. Camera in hand, I hope to offer different images here – pictures that celebrate a diversity of bodies as well as a different way of feeling beautiful and sensuous.

The Art of Aging Queer
After working for many years on photo projects related to old age, Arianne noticed that there is a deep and wide-spread need to celebrate love, sexuality and beauty in seniors, along with a desire to break taboos about sexuality in old age. The art of aging queer echoes Arianne's sensitivity to the marginalized, the mavericks, and her concern for the well-being and fulfillment of her friends, colleagues and acquaintances from queer communities. Arianne's incompre-hension and revulsion in the face of the discrimination and violence that members of the LGBTQ+ community still suffer, despite significant progress made in recent decades, also motivated the creation of this series. This project aims to promote inclusivity, diversity, acceptance and openness toward others Five queer models volunteered to participate in this series. The participants, despite comparable ages, come from very different worlds, and express both contrasting and nuanced conceptions of homosexuality. Five models, five unique life paths in the margins of society, five visions reflected in the photographic works of this series, each of which contributes to our understanding of what it means to be queer. The photos of the art of aging queer were shot in August 2021. They are the result of long and beautiful encounters between the photographer and her models. Photo shoots often span several hours, and in some cases, several days, which is essential to building a strong bond of trust. These sessions give an important role to improvisation; identifying how these people want to be represented, and feel beautiful, is an integral part of Arianne's approach that promotes a collaborative spirit and sensitivity.

Arianne Clément

After obtaining a master’s degree with honours in photography from University of the Arts London, Arianne Clément travelled far and wide to find inspiration, often getting involved in humanitarian projects with the marginalized, her preferred subjects. She now devotes her work principally to portraying the elderly. Her celebrated portraits of seniors have been exhibited nationally and internationally, and won her several prizes, grants and honours. What these distinctions reflect first and foremost are the sensitivity and boldness of her work and the unique connection she manages to create with her models. Her pictures and stories were published in major newspapers and prestigious journals all around the world and her work was met with enthusiastic response online, creating a buzz in social media.

Jacques Bodin high resolution painting

Jacques Bodin high resolution painting
Jacques Bodin, painter, lives and works in Levallois Perret near Paris. He is one of the main representant of european hyperrealism. The paintings, are executed from his own photos modified with numeric tools. His paintings accentuate photographic deviations from reality (depth of field, wide angle, lighting, and focus anomalies) to create a hyperrealism reference. Subject matter includes extreme closeup views of exacting images cast in shadow through reflective lighting. The apparent hyperrealistic frontality of the foregrounds is compared with the diffuse aspect of the backgrounds in which we can see vanishing lines which break up the graphic organization of the canvas. His work explores diverse subject themes such as grass, fruits, hair, trees and vegetation and is organized in the manner in which he captures his subjects and depicts them with meticulous attention. Approaching minimalism, some of the works embark on a conceptual aspect of hyperreality. He has been in numerous gallery shows and his work has been featured in many books. He is represented by Plus One gallery in London. Research of perfection during execution contains itself a message. It is perhaps this passage of time which gives a metaphysical dimension to hyperrealism.

Rivoli Genève
The wander of giving the eye what it can’t see. - The frayed segments that protrude from the wound threads of a ball of string, the luminous transparency of the glass bottle that reflects, deformed, the architecture of the room and the brilliant, compelling colors of the fruit in the basket, the strands of tall, dry grass that decorate the back of a woman like a tattoo… With Jacques Bodin every feature is perfectly visible in a bracing sharpness, from the wrinkled but shiny peel of the oranges to their inner white spongy part, to the pulp of which we see the juice that raises it; from the transparent drops of dew worn by a stem of grass like a jewel, to the veins of ivy enveloping around a lying trunk, to a tuft of grass that the wind combs as if it were hair. The wander lies in giving the eye much more than it can see. As Picasso said, “realism is the impossible”. A mysterious, paradoxical phrase, explained by the literary critic Walter Siti. The world, the reality, is too vast and too complex to be dominated by our gaze. To succeed, the realistic painters divide it into small parts to study them in detail. If we want the precision of the detail, it is impossible to have the whole of the real. Looking at hyper - realistic works of art, many wonder what sense it has to realize them. We all, in fact, have more or less sophisticated technical tools to photograph the world and ourselves. It is a well - founded question.
Nowadays we do not choose a smart-phone for its basic technical property of calling and receiving calls, but for the additional features of taking high resolution photos and video pictures. Snapping photos has become a sort of nervous habit, a tic, a compulsive behavior. Our subjects are barely able to show our special look of the world around us. In a museum, for example, our biggest task is to take pictures of the paintings, installations and sculptures even when it is prohibited. Nevertheless the process of creating art proves to be unpredictable. One of the most exciting questions of contemporary art is to ask oneself if something has been photographed or hand painted. This fascinating doubt is the sign of a challenge between creation and reproduction. Realism is a technique to learn more about the world, not through mere imitation nor through the reproduction of things, but through their analytical remaking by our own hands. Bodin wants to be the soil that makes the grass grow, and the dew that quenches it in the morning. Cristina Muccioli Art critic, curator and lecturer

Vikas Vinayak Patnekar

Vikas Vinayak Patnekar
Vikas Patnekar was born 1966, raised and educated in Belgaum district, a beautiful rural area that even today remains untouched by the concrete jungle, in the state of Karnataka in India. Vikas Vinayak Patnekar’s art is distinguished by its masterful command of watercolour, through which he captures the lyricism and transient beauty of natural and everyday scenes with remarkable sensitivity. His paintings often explore landscapes, figures, and motifs suffused with subtle tonal shifts, fluid washes, and vibrant yet harmonious colour — qualities that showcase both technical finesse and emotional resonance. Patnekar uses the inherent unpredictability of watercolour to evoke light, atmosphere, and mood, creating works that feel alive with movement and poetic nuance. This fluid expressiveness, combined with a disciplined understanding of composition, allows his art to transcend mere representation and invite viewers into a contemplative experience that celebrates the spirit of his subjects. In exhibition settings, Patnekar’s works speak to the delicate balance between control and spontaneity that defines his practice. Each painting reflects a thoughtful dialogue between precision and intuition — elements that enable him to reveal both the visible and the poetic essence of his chosen scenes. Whether capturing the quiet stillness of nature or the evocative interplay of light and shadow, his watercolours draw audiences into an immersive visual journey, one that highlights the expressive potential of a medium often prized for its immediacy and subtlety.

In 1966 Vikas Patnekar was born, raised and educated in Belgaum district, a beautiful rural area that even today remains untouched by the concrete jungle, in the state of Karnataka in India. For an artist, life is very interesting when looked at very closely. For the past 36 years, Vikas has been expressing his muse in watercolors. He learned under the guidance of Mr K. B. Kulkarni, who was an eminent artist in India. In the past Vikas had his shows in California, UK and in India. His works are in the various parts of the world. Lord Attenborough the director of the film “ Gandhi “ is a proud patron of his works. Several commissions are in his credits such as Macquaire Bank, Australia, Anz Bank, Australia, Executive production Manager for the film Gandhi, Australian Consulate, Consulate General of Netherlands, Consulate general of the Federal Republic of Germany, Thailand, Argentina, South Africa, British Dy High Commission, New Zealand, Switzerland. Many more works are in India and abroad. I had my exhibition in Uruguay in the year 2019 and 2020. There will be book launch on my life as an artist.

Reflections of the World - Worlds of Reflections

Reflections of the World - Worlds of Reflections
Gerd Lieder, an artist and, among other things, an art historian, spans the broad spectrum from basic topics of the art science to philosophy to a contemporary exploration of human perception. With the highest technical and content precision, he brings seemingly unstructured shapes and colors into overarching, perfectly harmonious harmony. Through his individual, well-defined imagery he manages to convey the essential nature of art: art is a reflection, a reflection of reality, or rather, what we perceive as reality. It is our perception that shapes reality, so the reality is always subjective and cannot be determined according to generally applicable standards. Lieder reminds us of this by dissolving, reflecting and flowing into one another the forms we are talking about. The point of this game with perception is that there is no solution and everything is possible at the same time. The answer is not provided by the artist, but the viewer has to find it for himself. So life is.

Theme
Since 2000 his theme is about the visual experienceable world by means of reflection in different media like foils, water, glass, mirrors, and reality.

Artist Statement
The first “picture” in human history was a reflection - in a puddle, a still lake or a water hole. And the reflection of a bowed-over early face may have contributed significantly to the realization of man: The self-performed movements and grimaces are also the mirror image again - so I have to be what it looks at me. The key phrase is not “Cogito, ergo sum”, but “Video, ergo sum” - I see (me), therefore I am. - Gerd Lieder (https://gerdlieder.com/de/rezensionen/)

Reflections of the World - Worlds of Reflections

Gerd Lieder was born in Germany in 1955. He currently lives and works in Bremen. His contemporary oil paintings are depictions of the world as seen through the lens of reflection. Since 2000, the artist has carried different mirrors with him throughout the world to arrange as conspirators to his unique observations of compositions, situations, objects, and environments. Strategically placed for viewing his subjects through, they create the opportunity for a freeze-framing filter, representing the way our individual experiences inform unique renditions of our common existence. Overall, his paintings remark on the transient qualities of reality affected by place, circumstance, time and the ever-changing and impermanent perceptions of the viewer. Lieder attended the Ludwig-Maximillian University in Munich where he studied theatre science, history of art, German language and literature. His work has been included in many solo and group exhibitions in Germany and the United States.

Galina Gomzina

Galina Gomzina
I have always been fascinated by water; in almost all of my works you can see the depicted water with enchanting and elusive reflections of the reality surrounding us. These stories that convey a sense of peace and harmony, at the same time are filled with energy and motion. I always say that: "Water is a genuine creator. Sometimes it creates its masterpieces only for a moment, and then they disappear into oblivion, only for the new ones to appear… and it’s fascinating for an artist to capture and portray these very moments in a picture…" Galina Gomzina

Artist:
Galina Gomzina

Galina Gomzina is a talented watercolor painter possessing a high mastery of watercolor technique. Her masterpieces are widely known both in Russia and abroad. Galina was born in St. Petersburg, in a city of extraordinary beauty, where the majestic Neva River and numerous picturesque canals flow. This was the very thing that has influenced the artist’s creativity; in almost all of her works we see the masterly depicted water with enchanting and elusive reflections of the reality surrounding us. These stories that convey a sense of peace and harmony, at the same time are filled with energy and motion. Galina has always been fascinated by water: “Water is a genuine creator. Sometimes it creates its masterpieces only for a moment, and then they disappear into oblivion, only for the new ones to appear… and it’s fascinating for an artist to capture and portray these very moments in a picture…» Galina has graduated from the Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy, the Department of Design. But as the artist says, she was attracted by a magical watercolor since her childhood, and began to master it only after graduation. It was an exciting and complex process, and, as a result, in 2000, Galina started her work as a professional watercolor painter. Her favorite technique is «A la prima», a one-layer watercolor technique on wet paper. Galina is a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia and the Russian Society of Marine Artists. The artist’s creative biography includes more than 10 solo exhibitions both in Russia and abroad, constant participation in international watercolor exhibitions and the biennale (China, England, Italy, Emirates, Albania, Serbia, etc.), and a large number of publications. So, her work was appreciated by both connoisseurs and non-professional artists in Beijing, where her personal exhibition “Two Venice” was held in 2006. Her works are located in private collections in Russia and other countries (England, Italy, Spain, America, China, Serbia, etc.)

The artist’s creative life takes place both in her homeland and abroad, on trips to picturesque places that are often unique, far from tourist routes. Despite her intense exhibition activities, the artist expresses her talent in successful teaching. She conducts watercolor courses, online classes and plein air workshops both in Russia and abroad (Germany, Italy, etc.) Galina is a very energetic, positive and, as her students say, cheerful person who generously shares the secrets of her skills. She is very creative in conducting her classes, so they are always emotional and productive. Some of her students are already participating in international watercolor exhibitions.

Lene Kilde

Lene Kilde
Lene Kilde grew up in Rælingen outside Oslo. She has a Master’s degree in Production Design from the Oslo and Akershus College at Kjeller. She also has studied at Einar Granum’s Art School and Asker Art School. Early on, Lene primarily worked with figurative steel wire sculptures.Through the steel wire sculptures, she challenges ideas about the differences between sculpture and drawing. Lene Kilde creates sculptures inspired by children and their emotions. She finds that children’s body language is their purest form of communication. This is visualized by showing very few body parts, usually only hands and feet, which then are placed in proportion to each other with the use of metal mesh. Her intention is to invite the audience to use their own imagination so that they can complete the sculptures and fill in the lines and volume by themselves. The sculptures are made of concrete, metal mesh and air.

Artist Statement

Claudia Kaak is a German self-taught artist whose main subject is the human figure. Her oil paintings are based on photographs and movie stills. Every work has an autobiographical and social narrative which focuses on her childhood experiences. Her artwork deals with existential feelings, the inner strife of human beings and the extreme unlimited emotional and physical experience of pain. Her work is mostly untitled with a number assigned to a series in order not to influence the viewer. Her intention is to break taboo and allow emotional disorder to seep through the artwork.

Charlotte Baston - Série Art'd'Corps / Art'd'Corps series

Charlotte Baston - Série Art'd'Corps / Art'd'Corps series
Série de dessins et tableaux aux accents bruts, corps d'hommes et de femmes en prise avec un vivant tumultueux, fort et fragile, violent parfois, corps d'êtres à la sensibilité extrême dans toute leur présence éclatante. Series of drawings and paintings with raw accents, bodies of men and women in contact with a tumultuous, strong and fragile, sometimes violent life, bodies of beings with extreme sensitivity in all their dazzling presence.

Series of drawings but above all of paintings where the bodies come to speak a frail, powerful and soft language, bodies without faces, words of skin, arms, shoulders and heart to heart, the desire to touch, these beings in tones earthy and faded textures.

Victor Sheleg

Victor Sheleg
Victor Sheleg is a Russian artist who grew up in Latvia, and who has exhibited his art throughout Moscow. His creative outlook is based on his personal worldview, which explores the conformist culture of the society he experiences before turning it into an intriguing artistic aesthetic. His depictions of female figures, laced with shadow and suggestion, provide an intriguing balance of conformity and freedom, both in form and content. "When creating a picture, I am guided by emotions and energy. Harmony born of chaos of color, stains, lines and splashes." Viktor Sheleg

Brienne M Brown - Bringing the Everyday to Life

Brienne M Brown - Bringing the Everyday to Life
Much to her mother’s indignation, Brienne owned little clothing that was not covered in paint. From a very young age, Brienne showed talent in art and music, but wanted to pursue a career in the sciences. She started her education at the University of Utah as a double major (Art and Chemistry), eventually receiving a BS in Chemistry and finishing with a Master’s degree in 2004. After graduation, Brienne worked in a Toxicology lab. Though she painted some by taking an occasional class, as the years wore on, she realized she wanted more art in her life than a career in science would allow. She was surprised and delighted to find great fulfillment in painting. In fact, it became a necessity. After leaving her job as a toxicologist to raise her first child in 2008, Brienne had the opportunity to paint more consistently. Prioritizing painting and taking workshops from artists she admired paid off. Soon she was not only exhibiting and entering shows regularly, but also winning awards. Brienne holds signature membership status for the National Watercolor Society, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, and Utah Watercolor Society. Her work has been published in Splash 17 Best of Watercolor: Inspired Subjects, PleinAir Magazine, and Watercolor Artist Magazine. Brienne’s passion is watercolor and plein air painting. She has won several top awards in many plein air competitions. “I find beauty in everyday life, the so called ‘mundane’. Ordinary people going about their everyday lives inspire me. I especially enjoy painting en plein air, where each painting reminds me of where I was, of the experiences I had, the sounds, smells, and the people I met. As I try and capture the essence of a scene, my paintings are always more about a moment in time than about a particular location. I enjoy sharing how I see the world.”

Stanko Abadzic
Photography

Stanko Abadzic Photography
Abadzic was born in Vukovar, Croatia in 1952. His father, recognizing Stanko's suspectibility to the old world charm of this city on the Danube, presented him with a Russian camera on his 15th birthday. Abadzic taught himself the technical basics while refining his vision by attending exhibitions, studying photography books and watching television and films. He joined a photo club, exhibited his early work, and earned money taking pictures of weddins and soccer clubs. Abadzic subsequently joined the staff of the newspaper Vjesnik as a photojournalist, married and started a family. This trnquil existence, however, wa brutally interrupted by the outbreak of Croatia's war of independence in 1991. The dark years of physical and creative displacement ended when Abadzic moved to Prague on a sunny August day in 1995. The warmth of the sun symbolized for Abadzic the city's positive energy. Feeling a sense of rebirth, he began exploring Prague with his medium-format camera, leaving behind the photojournalist and discovering the artist within. The enigmatic beauty of Prague's ancient streets and cul-de-sacs also helped deepen t he sense of misterioso that inhabits so many of Abadzic's images. The furtive pose and voyeuristic overtones of "Curiosity, Prague" transforms a commonplace scene into a Cocteau-like meditation on unconscious urges. Abadzic's head, heart and spirit had achieved perfect alignment through his photography.

Artist Statement
I slowly peeked behind the curtain, entered old backyars overgrown with Ivy where time had stopped, "he says. "I met people who remained original and authentic, people in no hurry, people who refused to take part in the extremes of globalization. The more I unveiled Prague, the more I began to experience photography as an art form. The sensation was intense, like a volcanic eruption. "The mass media bombard us with images of blood and tears, " he states." It's high time we showed interest in beauty and aesthetics, not just in wars and catastrophes. I still believe photography can touch people emotionaly. I believe a photograph can be a testimony and a document of its time, and that it can inspire us to talk to each other and make a better world."

Feeling a sense of rebirth, he began exploring Prague with his medium-format camera, leaving behind the photojournalist and discovering the artist within. Abadzic moved back to his homeland in 2002, settling in the capital city of Zagreb, but retained his Czech residence permit and returns periodically to Prague. He also photographs extensively on the Croatian island of Krk, site of images such as "Brothers, Baska," which eloquently reference our shared humanity. Abadzic continues to create work that registers a positive outlook despite the difficulties of his past and increasing cynicism currently in fashion.

Michele Del Campo

Michele Del Campo
In his ongoing series of paintings “Daydreamers”, he generally depicts an idle and melancholic youth, beautiful and kissed by the bright Mediterranean sun, but they appear aloof and immersed in an unfulfilled inner world. In his other ongoing series “Life on the edge” he expresses, in a more dramatic form, the isolation, the loneliness and the sense of loss of the individual. He paints both from life and from photos, according to the complexity of the composition. His works from photos are careful combinations of a number of different reference photographs that he has taken to models, objects and spaces in different times and places. He paints often on large formats with the freshness and sensuality of a very personal wet on wet technique.

Michele Del Campo was raised in San Nicandro Garganico, a small town in rural South Italy. When he was 18 he moved to Milan (Italy), where he started his Fine Art studies, then he went to study in Falmouth (UK), Dundee (UK) and Madrid (Spain). In 2008 he moved to London and in 2016 to Glasgow (UK), and in 2018 to Milan, where he now lives and works. He has a degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid (Spain, 2007), and a degree in Illustration and Printmaking from the University of Dundee (UK, 2001). Felipe Almendros

Felipe Almendros
Felipe Almendros, born in Barcelona and raised in Badalona, is one of the biggest names in the Spanish Comic Industry. As an audiovisual artist, he collaborated in numerous animation clips and experimented with video art in different music videos and short films. Felipe Almendros’s art bridges urban realism, graphic narrative, and contemporary visual expression in a way that reflects both his roots in comics and his vibrant painterly practice. Born in Barcelona and raised in Badalona, he developed a distinctive visual language in which everyday characters, cityscapes, and fragments of urban life are rendered with a direct, hand-drawn sensibility that combines the immediacy of street imagery with thoughtful composition. Almendros’s paintings often portray figures and scenes drawn from the fringes of Barcelona’s urban rhythm, using bold lines, evocative colour and narrative suggestion to celebrate the poetry of the commonplace — whether it’s a commuter, a neighbourhood gathering, or the architectural textures of the city itself. His work reflects an instinctive blend of graphic storytelling and fine art, offering viewers a dynamic experience that feels both familiar and freshly observed, making his pieces particularly compelling in exhibition contexts that explore contemporary urban identity and visual culture.

Juan Cossio

Juan Cossio
Cossio’s principal tool for painting is an airbrush, which sprays the paint onto the canvas and allows for the seamless blending of pigments. This blending allows Cossio to achieve high detail and precision found in his elaborate works. By using an airbrush instead of a standard paintbrush, Cossio changes the function of a tool originally designed to retouch photographs into the primary means of creating a photorealistic image. In each of his compositions, Cossio experiments with the human form and its ability to convey emotion in functional, minimalistic interiors. Many of his works echo those of the New Realism movement, conjuring an atmosphere in which the figure is derived from reality but the other elements are fabricated, obscure, utilitarian yet unexpected. Cossio pares down the environment in which the figure is placed so as to direct all concentration on the figure. Though Cossio works in a hyperrealist style, his scenes are set apart from the reality of day-to-day living. Cossio states, “I create images starting from a contradiction. I am a painter who does not want to paint reality. I want to interpret it with all the means that are at my reach.” His interpretation of reality is one of appreciation for the beauty, the emotion, and the paradoxes of everyday life.

Artist Statement
" For me making art is something inherited, natural. I was always a good draftsman, it´s like breathing. It´s a necessity to express my ideas through painting and to see the world around me with an artistic point of view. Beside is the real aspect: I´m an artist; it´s my job and I have to make a living from this; that´s why I make art. "

Artist:
Juan Cossio

Juan Manuel Cossio was born in Madrid, Spain in 1960. He received academic training in Art and History at the Complutense University of Madrid. From 1980, Cossio worked as a Copyist at the Museo del Prado, where he studied from close observation and reinterpreted classical works of art; studied under Spanish realist Antonio López García; and became a student of Manuel Franquelo, one of Spain’s leading hyperrealist painters from the New Realism movement of the 1960s. Actively involved in the explosive Spanish art scene of the Eighties, Cossío's tireless research and experimentation into pushing the boundaries of pictorial techniques led him to what is now more commonly known as 'New Realism'. Relying on photography as his main means of support and using the timeless airbrush as his preferred tool, Cossío's work continues to evolve through an openness to approach and his continual curiosity in employing whatever new techniques are at hand in order to achieve his unique contemporary aesthetic which look to the female figure as its main subject. Cossio currently lives and works in Madrid and his work has been exhibited internationally in countries such as Spain, Italy, the UK, South Africa, Venezuela, and the US. Slava Fokk-Penetration

Slava Fokk-Penetration Paintings 2004-2015
Slava Fokk's way of painting is distinguished by a “smart retrospection”- an exacting selection of painting techniques that allowed to create technologically perfect and plastically expressive works. Turning of Slava Fokk to origins of oil painting and to creative techniques of old Dutch manner of painting, was quite natural. Fokk has not been lost in the modern painting process which is often stunningly declarative, bringing a lot of anti-aesthetic destroying qualities and much intentional technological imperfections. Creatively interpreting a great heritage he developed his own recognizable complex of painting techniques which are justified in the painting and plastically expressive.

Theme:
The women are the central object. Monumentalism and plasticity of classical art in combination with Modern Art stylistics are still attractive for the artist. His work is distinguished by a good taste, without off-limit extremes from expressive brutality to digital technologies in a “Hyper-Realism”. Some flatness of general composite solution and a delicate scumbling design within a picture make a subtly shaded pictorial image which is especially good in woman’s portraits.

Artist:
Slava Fokk

Painter Slava Fokk belongs to a younger generation of South of Russian painters, who in twenty years created in a sense an aesthetic phenomenon outstanding against a background of Russian modern art-process. His works are distinguished by a refined aesthetic, and they do not succumb to the extremes of “Hyper-Realism”. He has a special talent to unite elements from the postmodern era with Russian symbolism in an aesthetic way. The geometric shapes create an Art Deco atmosphere, enhanced by the bright and contrast-rich color palette.

Biography

In 1997 he completed his training at Krasnodar Art School, also known as the Repin. Declared to be one of the brightest graduates of his class, Mr. Fokk graduated with high honors. Some years later the reflective Slava decided to move to Moscow. In his words, “I felt that the atmosphere where I was living was pressing on me. At some point, everyone needs to leave… to live somewhere else, far away. As a native of Krasnodar, I knew I would have to work to adapt to another city, another culture – and that it would be very useful.” The ancient Greeks said: “Only when you come back and realize that nothing has changed do you realize how much you yourself have changed.” In Moscow, where he became very productive, Slava was exposed to the “old” Russia, a combination of bourgeois and art. “The greatest challenge an artist faces is to adequately channel his first bursts of creative energy. It is necessary to constantly work at improving one’s skills in order to effectively tackle this challenge.” “I combine practically obsolete concepts with modern decorative themes. In the present body of work, I wanted to create a slightly nostalgic atmosphere.” His main focus is the art of the “northern revival.” He is attracted to the oil paintings of the Netherlands schools. These provide a soft light and shadow with a sometimes internal light that seems to envelop the subjects and figures.
